Abortion-A serious problem

The problems with Abortion

Greetings friends! Today I will be talking about a very serious problem we face-abortion.

Abortion is an incredibly serious and controversial problem facing the United States

today. 882,000 abortions took place in the United States in 2017. In 2014 approximately nineteen percent of pregnancies in the US (not including spontaneous miscarriage) ended in abortion. In 2015, thirty eight percent of pregnancies in Washington D.C. ended in abortion. These statistics are not okay! 882,000 babies are being murdered in the United States every year, mainly for the sake of convenience.

Abortion is legal in all fifty US states, with some states having stricter guidelines than others. Louisiana has the strictest guidelines about abortion, and Oregon has the least. Abortion is harmful in three ways. Abortion is harmful to the fetus, abortion is harmful to the mother (both physically and mentally), and abortion is harmful to society as a whole.

Abortion is harmful to the fetus. This goes without saying, since the whole purpose of

abortion is to kill the baby. There are two types of abortions, medical and surgical. Medical

abortion is taking medication to end the pregnancy. Surgical abortion can be done one of two ways. Before fifteen weeks, a doctor will insert a suction tube into the uterus, and the baby and placenta will be vacuumed out, and disposed of. After fifteen weeks, a doctor will use a pair of forceps to pull out the baby and the placenta and dispose of them.

This is wrong on so many levels. Who gives humans the right to dispose of their child if they do not want it? A beating heart can be detected in the child as early as five weeks. We are killing children with beating hearts and a soul in the name of convenience, either to the mother or someone else.

Abortion is harmful to the mother. The following are the abortion complication rates.

Eight weeks and under - Less than 1%. 8-12 weeks - 1.5-2%. 12-13 weeks - 3-6% 2nd trimester – Up to 50%. These complications can include hemorrhage, sepsis, peritonitis, deep vein thrombosis, and in extreme cases, death. The national abortion complication

rate is three percent, which doesn’t make physical complication a huge deal.

Abortion can cause devastating psychological damage to the mother, however. According to one study, women who have undergone abortions are at an 81% increased risk for mental health problems, and nearly 10% of the incidence of mental health problems was shown to be attributable to abortion. Abortion doesn’t just harm the baby, it damages everyone around.

Abortion is harmful to society. If it is legal to murder a fetus in the womb, a baby who

has a heartbeat and a soul, then why is it not legal to murder other people? If it is legal to kill a fetus for having a birth defect, then how come we can’t murder babies and toddlers for having that same defect? If we can kill a child for being an inconvenience to us, then how come we can’t kill other people for being an inconvenience? A child is alive in the womb.

As previously stated, a heartbeat can be detected as early as five and a half weeks. Psalm 139:13 says “You formed my inmost being; you knit me in my mother’s womb.” Obviously, life begins in the womb, not after the child is born.

There are several reasons why abortion is wrong. It is harmful to the child, to the mother,

and to society as a whole. The child being aborted is alive, and has a heart and a soul. We are murdering people when we abort babies. The mother is at risk for devastating damage, not just physically, but emotionally. If we as a society decide it is okay to murder a child in the womb, then what is to stop us from murdering people already born? It is the exact same dynamic, people just don’t want to admit it.

Life is something extremely sacred, and should be valued at all costs, and we as humans do not have the choice to eliminate that life.

I hope this post helped you realize some of the devastating problems with abortion, and the long term effects it can have on everyone involved. Let's all pray for this issue together.

Peace! Hannah :):)
